Drill Rods for Horizontal Directional Drilling

Drill rods for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) are a core component of the steerable boring system.

They are used to:

• Transfer torque and thrust from the drilling rig to the drilling tool,
• Deliver drilling fluid through the internal conduit to the drill head, enabling cooling, lubrication and cuttings removal,
• Connect successive sections during hole reaming and pipeline pullback,
• Provide stability and directional control of the whole process thanks to high strength and stiffness.

With properly selected diameter, wall thickness and length, the rods allow safe and efficient HDD in various ground conditions, from soft soils to harder formations.
