Types and construction
For drilling with compact drills, three-wing augers are typically used. The choice of three wings for the auger is due to stabilizing the column of drilling pipes and reducing the load on each wing individually. The wings are set at an angle of 120 degrees to each other.
The main load during drilling falls on the cutting edges of the auger. Augers are made with two types of blades: VK8 (hard alloy plates). Augers with VK8 hard alloy plates have increased wear resistance when drilling in soil up to the 6th category.
How to choose the diameter of the auger?
The choice of the diameter of winged augers depends on the diameter of the casing pipes used during well casing. The auger diameter should exceed the casing diameter by 15-25%. It is considered optimal to have two diameters in the set: 110 mm and 165 mm. A 110 mm diameter auger serves as a reconnaissance tool and can be used for drilling Abyssinian wells. A 165 mm diameter auger serves as the main tool and allows drilling holes for casing pipes up to 150 mm.
